It is the mission of the Louise Radloff School Media Center to encourage students to become lifelong learners. The school year begins with an orientation for every class, so that students will know how to find and utilize library materials, including those on the web. Later in the year, as research projects are being assigned, the media specialist is on hand to assist with teaching about online resources, reference books, and the research process. Learning HOW to research is a skill that students will be able to use through school and beyond.
We have thousands of books, both fiction and non-fiction, at varying levels of difficulty, to meet the needs of all our students. Highlighted areas of interest change frequently, from books about time travel to books about sports to non-fiction books that appeal specifically to middle-schoolers.
Students may check out two books at a time, for two weeks at a time. Books may be renewed for an additional two weeks, or returned early in order to check out two new books. Students must return all overdue books before checking out a new book. The reference section has materials that need to remain available to all students and may not be checked out.
The Media Center is open every morning during homeroom for check out, as long as the student has an agenda signed by their homeroom teacher. Students may also come to check out books and work on research (with a signed agenda and the Media Center Computer Usage Pass) after completing classwork during the school day. We love to have a busy space and see lots of students every day!
